How does community housing differ from sober or transitional living?

Safe Community Housing is a sober environment, but our hope is to help people accomplish more than just staying sober. With opportunities to be mentored in various life skills like gaining employment, personal finances, health and wellness, dealing with stress and conflict etc. we are committed to helping each person grow and overcome any barriers standing in their way.

Safe Community Housing differs from a transitional model in one major way. We realize many people will, and encourage them to see this as a stepping stone towards future goals. However, we also realize there are many people who may experience the benefits of community living and decide it is a better long term option for them. This means there is no limit to how long someone is welcome to live in a Safe House as long as they uphold the community standards.

Is this a Christian organization?

The motivation for this organization to exist comes from Biblical ideas of loving neighbors and caring for those in hard circumstances. The principles that guide our approach are also rooted in the truth of God’s Word and the hope of The Gospel. The founders and leaders of this organization are unapologetic followers of Jesus Christ but we also realize no one can be forced to love God or believe that He loves them.

Are residents responsible for their own food?

Safe Community Housing will provide appliances and cookware for residents to use. We will also seek to provide basic staples like spices and condiments etc. Our hope is also to provide at least one dinner a week to be eaten together by the residents, but this is not guaranteed. Each resident will be responsible for their own food.
